Chelsea are interested in signing Bayer Leverkusen striker Javier Hernandez in a £34million deal, according to German publication Bild.
The former Manchester United striker has been persistently linked with a return to the Premier League following his departure from Old Trafford and it’s claimed that Antonio Conte could be the man to make it happen.
Conte’s decision to keep Michy Batshuayi on the bench against Bournemouth on Boxing Day despite the suspension of Diego Costa highlighted the lack of options at Stamford Bridge. It seems the table-topping side have only one experienced and trusted centre-forward.
Hernandez would rectify that issue, having proven himself in the Premier League with Manchester United and as one of the top marksmen in the Bundesliga with Leverkusen. Last season he scored 26 goals.
Current Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho also heaped praise on the 28-year-old recently, saying he never would have sold him had he been in charge at Old Trafford at the time of the striker’s £7.3m departure.
According to Bild, Leverkusen would listen to offers for the Mexican if they met their valuation of around £34m.
